Capella Hotels opened its first United States-based hotel in Washington, DC’s Georgetown area on April 3. With 49 luxurious rooms, Capella Hotel, constructed within an existing five-story building, offers its guests the use of a 24-hour personal attendant, a refreshment center and free Wi-Fi. The hotel, located near a fashionable shopping area, boasts a rooftop pool, bar and spa.
Guest rooms have contemporary decor and are designed to make guests feel as though they are inside their own comfortable room inside a private mansion. The hotel’s in-house restaurant, the Grill Room is led by Chef Jakob Esko. The Grill Room is perfect for meat-lovers, because the restaurant specializes in grilled cuts and seafood. This Capella hotel’s location features views of the Potomac River, the Kennedy Center and Watergate.
Horst Schulze, the CEO and chairman of Capella was an executive at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel company for 19 years. During this period, under his leadership, the hotel company earned the Malcolm Baldrige Award for National Quality, twice — once in 1992 and seven years later, in 1999. Other Capella Hotels are located in Mexico, Germany, and Singapore.
