Next, make your way to the Chateau de Mores State Historical Site. If you and your family love touring old homes, you can’t miss visiting this mansion, once home of the Marquis family. Built in 1883, this home has quite a few of the original furniture from the family. Its former owner, Marquis de Mores operated transportation companies from that time, a stagecoach company, and railroad cars among several other business ventures.

When it’s steamy and hot outside, a trip to a beautiful lake can’t be beat. Lake Sakakawea & Garrison Dam, located a mile North of Pick City, is a North Dakota treasure. Canoeing, bird watching or sailing are a few of the leisurely family friendly past-times that families have enjoyed for decades at the lake. Your children will be delighted to know that there are beaches in the area. Near Lake Sakawaea, swimming is allowed at the sandy beach of Fort Stevenson.

Lewis and Clark State Park, north of Lake Sakawaea has a sandy beach area and changing rooms. The beach is located on the northeast side of this state park.

All of your adventures in North Dakota will no doubt leave you all very hungry. Have a special dinner with your family during your trip. Try having the pan seared trout at hotel Donaldson in Fargo. This boutique hotel’s Hodo restaurant is well-known for offering delicious food, made with fresh ingredients. Your family and and you can have a hearty meal of duck, ribs or go all out with the filet mignon.
